Cthulha - "Iron Red"

Dirt devils
filling her lungs
iron red
it gets in her teeth
salt sweat
stings her eyes
wandering not lost
wandering not lost
an intentional missing person
sun blisters
skin flakes off
visions of flight
eyes roll back
birds circle
a storm of feathers
and dirt
wandering not lost
wandering not lost
an intentional missing person
wind picks up
she never hit the ground
her memory
blacks out the sun
a thousand wings
beat over
the horizon

Nobody wanted to see you
And all of the pieces that brought you down
How every day was page from
A story that they never meant to read
In your heart the sun’s rolling over
In order to cope with another day
Living like a fish out of water
Catch and release is a kind of death
But whose is the failure to thrive when
Everyone saw but nobody stepped in
And now that the rust has come off
The truth was right below the surface
How did you handle your anger?
When you discovered you’d been ignored.
You realized that love isn’t really
Enough to make sure people do their part
What will do you do when you’re older?
Unable to say why you never been proud
Handed a life full of tangles
And nothing left over to free yourself
But whose is the failure to thrive when
Everyone saw but nobody stepped in
And now that the past has become
More than a story that you
Tell to make sense of the weight
The terrible waste in turning away
When every move that you make
Is tied to a past you couldn’t shake
We win some and we lose some
what’s leftover when we took nothing
but all was left behind from the kind of
life we’ve tried to build on
Of all that we’ve been given
can we not just be forgiven?
For faults past on from lives unknown
to future dreams left unwritten
Tell me what I’m doing wrong?
I feel like I get nothing done
Each day is a brand new mess
I never feel like I’m doing my best

The road up near San Cristobal flows over a series of ridges. It climbs steeply up then descends quickly down. There is a house in Arroyo Hondo where we bought homemade absinthe from a dead man, although I didn’t believe he was dead at the time. And when the bottle was empty that evening and we had all lain down to sleep, I felt a sadness I couldn’t explain.
And when the dead man from Arroyo Hondo visits me in my dream, he is holding aloft a green liquid that I taste without it touching my lips. And he asks me of his wife and child, but I have no answer for him. I never knew his wife, nor his child, nor his name. No, I can’t even picture his face.
There is a road heading East out of Questa where we once bought cocaine from a stranger. Driving into the mountains I sincerely believed that I couldn’t be harmed. There is a house just east of Cerrillos that I once almost burned to ground. I didn't feel so Invincible then. Now, when I drive through Arroyo Hondo I am aware that one day I will die. I am keenly aware of the passing of time.
And when the dead man from Arroyo hondo visits me in my dream, he is holding aloft a green liquid that I taste without it touching my lips. and he he asks me of his wife and child, but i have no answer for him. I never knew his wife, nor his child, nor his name. No, I can’t even picture his face.

Hours of wings in your room
A wall of broken closet shutter doors
She casts her scratches, these contrasts
Illuminating, Incantations
Throwback, Bareback
Exposed but in control I think
Hours of wings beneath my bed
A wind at my back that throws the air
Salting the wounds to make them shine
Each in my bed at different times
I’d swallow the sun and burn your tongue
If only to leave you left undone
Throwback, Bareback
Exposed but in control I think
Don't hold me forever
